A missing man who prompted a statewide search and beyond was found alive and well Jan. 27.
On the morning of Jan. 27, family members of Kyle Powers, 21, telephoned authorities advising Kyle Powers had not been seen since the day prior at about 11 a.m. A family member reported Kyle missed afternoon appointments at Lyndon State College Jan. 26 and reported that he did not return home during the evening.
Family members were concerned and said the behavior was not characteristic of Kyle. Investigation found that Powers completed a bank transaction just after 11 a.m. on Jan. 26 and had not been seen since. Police followed up leads that he may have been seen getting gasoline for the vehicle at around 11 a.m.
Kyle, a former star St. Johnsbury Academy high-school athlete, was finally located 7 p.m. Jan. 27 by U.S. Capitol Police. Gatorade named him the 2007 Vermont Cross Country Runner of the Year; he won the Division I state championship and finished first in several invitational meets. He was a runner at Liberty University in Virginia.
