Castleton State College is building New Hall, a new 162-bed residence hall on campus.
Castleton State College is fast abuilding New Hall, a new 162-bed residence hall. Included with the dormitory construction is a large open-air, green pavilion located near the campus athletic field.
According to the college’s master plan, which was finalized during the summer and titled "Project 2012", construction of the two facilities required the relocation of six tennis courts to an area on the east side of South Street.
Construction of a new campus facilities building, as outlined in the master plan, is on a site by the South Street Parking lot. Both the old tennis courts and facilities building will be demolished as part of the project per the Project 2012 master plan.
According to the master plan, the total construction cost was budgeted at $10,595,000 including site work and utilities.
New Hall had to meet local zoning requirements which meant the dormitory could not exceed three stories in height. The rooms will have double occupancy with the average area per-student occupant at approximately 270 square feet.
The state-of-the art dorm building will include office space for camps and conferences as well as some space for concession vendors.
Coming in at 42,000 square feet, the final bill for New Hall is expected to be over $7,500,000—excluding furnishings.
New Hall is expected to open next year.
