WESTPORT - The Westport Library has a new face when it comes to the Internet.
Library director Stephen Smith said that the new Web site for the library is now up and running at www.westportnylibrary.org.
"We used to have a couple of steady pages with basic information," Smith said. "We wanted to reach out more to the community and have a way to do that on the Internet. Now, we have about 40 pages of information and an events calendar."
Smith said that the new site offers a variety of items that are offered through the library and the Westport Library Association.
"We have items from an event calendar to slide shows of our historic photographs," Smith said. "We have contact information, an on-line catalog, a blog and a way that you can renew your library books online."
Smith said that the site will help the library keep those who use it up on the latest events and hours.
"When you are only open three days a week, this events calendar is a great way to keep people up to date on what is happening at the library," Smith said. "The idea was to have a portal for people who wanted to know what was going on and wanted to know more about the library."
Smith said that the process to create the new Web site took about four months.
"With the change in the way that people connect and get information, we wanted to make sure that the library was keeping up with the times," Smith said. "With everything that the new site offers, including an on-line search for books and the ability to renew a book, we feel that we now offer a 21st century Web site for the community."
