The Westminster Cares, Inc. Board of Directors met on Dec. 4. Westminster Cares creates opportunities for seniors and disabled adults to live with independence and dignity in the community. Your support to this care-giving organization is a way for all of us to take care of our elders.
Westminster Cares held their Annual Meeting on Saturday, December 5, 2009, in the Westminster Fire Station. The program began with an election of officers and introduction of three new Board Members who were voted in. Ten residents who are at least 90 years old were introduced and honored by those in attendance. Karen Walter provided a brief up-date on the Elder Housing Project. Refreshments were served.
Westminster Cares began their Annual Fundraising Appeal this month. Letters were sent to many Westminster residents and second home owners. If you are able to donate your generosity will be greatly appreciated and will enable us to continue providing many needed services including delivering Meals-On-Wheels, Living Strong classes, providing rides for medical appointments, visiting with homebound residents, various other activities and workshops.
Services Provided Include: Meals on Wheels to 14 people; 10 rides for five different people by four volunteers for a total of 150 miles; two pieces of medical equipment loaned; visiting - volunteers visited three people. Meetings attended in November: Bookkeeper, Gazette, Quilt Show; the Development Director, Windham Co. Cares; the Art Program. Programs in November: two Secrets of Healthy Aging sessions, five Yoga classes, four Artist in Each of Us classes, 24 Living Strong classes were held.
