Ive said it all along: Big Blues defense will get it together. Thankfully, they started to click last weekend and helped the Giants get their first win. An exciting game it was.
I look for more excitement this weekend as they host the Eagles Sunday night. Philly looked like they were all on steroids (which, now that I think about it, may be true) as they crushed Detroit, putting up 56 points. Still, the New York Football Giants will bring them back to reality with an old fashioned beat-down this week.
I cant help but feel terrible for Bills fans, one of whom works here at Denpubs. Hes been moping around all week, mumbling something about next years draft. Too many injuries and no depth theyre in for a long season. As for our little contest, Eddie Munoz regained his spot at the top, but now hes got plenty of company. Hes joined by John Santasier, George Studnicky Jr., and Debbie Aldous, who all had strong Week 3s but not as strong as Chuck Jones and young Irek Malikowski, who posted 14-2 records. Chuck was MIA the first couple of weeks due to e-mail glitches, and as of press time, Im still waiting on his Week 2 scores to arrive, so dont be surprised to see this past champions name jump up the list.
One quick housekeeping note: Ive had a couple e-mails that said its a little confusing to put the pick sheet two weeks ahead. Always one to listen to advise, Ill back it off to just one week out. And just so you know, you can now read this column, get a pick sheet and see the current standings along with news from all Denpubs newspapers - online at www.denpubs.com. Each new issue goes live on Saturday mornings. From the homepage, go to region-wide news, and click on sports.
There are a couple of tough games to call this week, with Green Bay/Minnesota, Jets/Buffalo, and Miami/Oakland to name a few. I think the Packs luck runs out at the Vikings; Gang Green will have its way with the Bills; and give a slight home field advantage to the Phins. Good luck, and GO BIG BLUE!!!
