SARANAC - The Saranac Volunteer Fire Department is bringing some laughs to town to raise a little money for their membership.
"A Huge Night of Comedy with Dave Reilly" will be hosted at the auditorium of Saranac High School, 60 Picketts Corners Road, this Saturday, May 14. The event will feature headliner Dave Reilly, a stand-up comedian who has brought his routine to venues across the Northeast and other places across the country.
"We're excited to have him, especially for what will be our one major fundraisers this year," said fire department member Coral Banker, who is coordinating the event with friend and fellow firefighter Wayne Emerson.
Proceeds from the event will augment the donations the department receives sporadically that help cover the costs of training and additional expenses incurred by firefighters.
"We don't generate a lot of money other than donations in memory of someone or thank you donations, so this is basically our income. It's the money that belongs to our members that we use for things that aren't covered by the money that's raised by taxes," explained Banker.
Performances by comedian Joey Scarpelli and acoustic soloist Rob Hamm will help round out the show, which is expected to last three hours. Doors open for the event at 5:30 p.m. The show will begin at 7 p.m.
The cost of admission is $25. The show is open to those 18 and older; those younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Tickets for this Saturday's show are available at the Saranac Country Store in Saranac and Tina's Shear Magic Salon Dannemora or by calling Banker at 492-2014 or Emerson at 293-8131. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
