SCHROON LAKE - The Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its Citizen or Organization of the Year award.
"I think the biggest quality that most people are looking for in the Citizen of the Year is their service to the community," Schroon Lake Supervisor Cathy Moses said. "That's what I'd be looking for as the supervisor."
Rosemarie Ritson, of the chamber of commerce, also said nominations need not go to a particular individual.
"It could be an organization that could be honored,"Ritson said. "For instance, last year we honored the Fish and Game Club."
Established in 1976, the award honors an area resident or organization who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the quality of life in Schroon Lake, according to Ritson. The chamber of commerce will honor the person or organization at its annual dinner in June. If one would like to make a nomination for 2011, the chamber asks that a letter be submitted to the chamber of commerce.
The nomination letter should include the accomplishments for which this person or organization should be honored. Details of the achievements, volunteer endeavors, personal characteristics, community support and efforts toward quality of life improvements will be considered. The nominee need not be a chamber of commerce member, but must reside in the town of Schroon, North Hudson, Paradox or Severance.
Any individual or organization may submit a signed letter of a nomination to the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 726, Schroon Lake 12870.
The chamber board of directors will make its decision after receiving community input. The name of the honoree will be announced May 17 and a dinner planned in June for the honoree, Ritson said.
All nominations must be received by May 10. Call the chamber office for more information at 532-7675.
