On Saturday, October 16, Grafton Ponds Outdoor Center, will host a Nordic Dryland Clinic featuring Vernon, VT-native and U.S. National Ski Team member Morgan Smyth.
Well-known in the area for its' 30-kilometer Nordic facility, the Outdoor Center offers a vast tiller-groomed Nortic trail network, plus another 30k of backcountry terrain.
A prodigy of sorts who began skiing at the age of two, Smyth learned to ski at Grafton Ponds and entered the Bill Koch racing league at the tender age of nine.
Working her way through the ranks including regional and club races, Smyth qualified for the 2004 Junior World Championships in Syn, Norway, before finishing 12th overall at the U23 World Championships in Praz de Lys, France in the classic sprint event.
In 2009 Syth had arguably her best year yet, competing in her first World Championships in Liberec, Czech, and now looks towards competing on the U. S. Olympic team.
The Outdoor Center is looking forward to bringing back one of their own, as Smyth will lead two dryland clinics, a masters clinic for ages 30 and up from 10 a.m. to noon, and a juniors clinic for ages 13 to 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. A poster-signing session will also follow each clinic.
The cost of the clinic is $25 per person and discount rates are available for groups and teams. Pre-registration required, call 843-2400
