NORTH CREEK - The Widlund Gallery at Tannery Pond Community Center will welcome local favorites to showcase their quilts during the month of Jan. The North Creek Quilters (NCQ) organization is proud to announce its exhibit, "Binding a Community", Jan. 3 - Jan. 27.
"The colorful and intricate quilts will also bring along a history lesson," said Elise Widlund of the Widlund Gallery. "Three generations of quilts and quilters will be shown as well as examples of wearable art, such as a quilted "raggy" jacket."
Recently, NCQ made and raffled a queen-size Adirondack log cabin quilt. During the past year the group has collaborated on creating a queen- size log cabin quilt. All proceeds benefited the North Country Outreach Center. Previously, NCQ has donated proceeds from its creations to Town of Johnsburg Library and to Johnsburg Historical Society.
Recent quilting projects have included paper-piecing, a "Stack 'n Whack" quilt, a variation of "Trip Around the World," a strata technique quilt, and braid table runners. Plans for Winter-Spring 2011 are a "raggy" quilt taught by Susan Therio, a "Cathedral Window" quilt taught by Dana Hall, and a quilt with the X-Box pattern taught by Linda Bennett.
The group welcomes quilters of all skill levels. Meetings are scheduled for the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. at North Country Outreach Center.
