QUEENSBURY - The Adirondack Northway is closed to traffic in both directions for about four hours, until about 2 p.m. Saturday, law enforcement officials said at 10 a.m.
The closure is a precautionary measure due to a natural gas line break, according to the Warren County Sheriff's Office.
The gas line break occurred before 10 a.m. near Exit 18 apparently in conjunction with a construction project underway in the reconfiguration of the Exit 18 corridor in Queensbury, officials said.
Traffic is being re-routed down Rte. 9 through Glens Falls and South Glens Falls to Exit 17.
Beginning at about 10 a.m., sheriff's patrol officers were busy closing off entrances to the Northway between Exit 19 and 17, setting out flares and directing traffic.
By 10:40 a.m., several motor vehicle accidents had been reported along Rte. 9.
