Okemo Mountain Resort recently announced that their restaurants will now offer gluten-free options at all their culinary outlets, including the menus at Sienna, Epic, Coleman Brook Tavern, Base 68 Cafe and the Roadhouse at Jackson Gore. "It is a positive response to the growing awareness of gluten intolerance," Okemo's Director of Public relations Bonnie McPhearson said in a recent interview..
An estimated 3 million Americans have Celiac Disease, an auto-immune disorder that is caused by a reaction to the protein gluten, found in wheat, barley, and rye. The only treatment for Celiac Disease is a gluten-free diet. "What we are trying to do is make the experience for every guest a great one," said Mandy Smith in a recent interview. Smith is the assistant to Okemo Culinary Director. "We want every guest to feel at ease about what they are ordering from our culinary outlets."
Each of the Resort's chefs researched and developed gluten-free menu options and with an enthusiastic response, saw the development of new menus containing gluten-free selections at each of the resort's restaurants. For example at Siena, Okemo Mountain Resort's Italian restaurant, gluten-free pasta, pizza dough, and flatbreads are offered in lieu of their gluten-rich counterparts. While guests at Epic and Coleman Brook Tavern can find that each menu item offers ordering suggestions to make meal selections gluten-free.
In the base lodge cafeterias, gluten-free items such as salads are offered daily, while gluten-free specials and soups will also be offered on a regular basis. Guests are advised to call in advance of their visit for more information on the gluten-free cafeteria specials of the day at Base 68 and the Roundhouse at Jackson Gore.
