ORWELL On Sunday, Sept. 21, join Andi Lloyd, Associate Professor of Biology at Middlebury College, for a guided nature walk at 1 p.m. on The Tales Trees Tell at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell. Lloyd will show participants how to read the history of forests through tree rings, fallen trees, and other clues. Lloyd has been bringing her classes to Mount Independence and is ready to share her knowledge with others. Meet at the Mount Independence Museum. Wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather, bring water, and if you like, bring lunch or a snack to enjoy before the hike. Tickets are $5 for adults, free for children under 15, and includes admission to the Visitor Center. The event is sponsored by the Mount Independence Coalition and Vermont Division for Historic Preservation. The site is located near the end of Mount Independence Road, which is six miles west of the intersections of VT Routes 73 and 22A in Orwell. Regular hours are 9:30 to 5:00 daily through Oct. 13.
