The newly-reopened visitors' center in Paul Smiths is in need of a few good volunteers.
New York state closed the center last year due to ongoing fiscal issues and Paul Smith's College took over ownership of the facilities once owned by the state Adirondack Park Agency.
The center reopened its doors earlier this month thanks to a partnership with the college, the Adirondack Park Institute, the Adirondack Center for Writing, and MAC's Canoe Livery.
The Adirondack Park Institute, along with Paul Smith's College faculty, are helping staff the VIC - but more volunteers are needed to meet programming needs this summer.
Brian McDonnell of MAC's Canoe Livery is managing the VIC's day-to-day operations. He says volunteers are being recruited and trained in several categories.
Right now, volunteers are needed to run the front desk, assist with nature interpretation, maintain trails, tend to grounds and gardens, oversee hospitality, and run the Butterfly House.
