PLATTSBURGH -Pets should be cared for carefully during cold winter months.
On bitter cold days, officials urge pet owners to keep a close eye on their pets.
Pets should not be left out in the cold for long periods of time, according to New York State Office of Emergency Management. They should have water brought to them periodically throughout the day. They also urge pet owners to purchase water bowls that prevent the water from freezing. Animals that are left out in cold temperatures can become frost-bitten, especially on their ears, tail and paws.
