The New York Metropolitan Transit Authority is getting 90 new vehicles from the Nova Bus facility in Plattsburgh.
The MTA has placed an order for a test fleet of 90, 40-foot Nova LFS vehicles. The buses will be assembled at the Plattsburgh plant and delivered to New York City later this year.
The transit authority is having Nova Bus provide the vehicles in three different configurations in order to assess the various "transmission and cooling technologies available.
Gilles Dion is president and CEO of Nova Bus. Dion says the company is focused on "sustainable business development," adding that a partnership with one of the nation's leading transit authorities is a promising sign for the future.
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer and North Country Congressman Bill Owens called the contract a "win-win." Schumer says the deal creates more good-paying jobs in Plattsburgh.
Owens notes that since constructing its $25 million facility in Plattsburgh, Nova Bus has created some 200 direct jobs in Clinton County.
