AKWESASNE The Mohawk Bingo Palace Poker Room will host its first Charity Poker Tournament to benefit Mountain Lake PBS this Sunday, May 4. The no-limit Texas Holdem style poker tournament will start at noon with players from across the North Country including PBS executives, Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council representatives, Akwesasne Mohawk Casino executives and local business people. Several months ago, the Mohawk Bingo Palace accepted a proposal from Mountain Lake PBS to host a tournament to assist them with raising funds for their organization. For entertainment purposes, the planning committee introduced tournament bounties, which are identified players that, if knocked out by a non-bounty player, the non-bounty player receives money. If a bounty player makes the prize pool their winnings will be donated back to the charity. Several tournament bounties have been identified, with Mohawk Bingo Palace and PBS executives and SRMT Tribal Council members, stepping up to the plate to be the tournament bounties. The tournament is capped at 200 players and the buy-in is $55 for $10,000 in tournament chips and the charity bonus buy-in is $35 for an additional $5,000 in chips. The community is encouraged to participate. Mohawk Bingo Palace is located at 202 State Route 37. For more information, call 1-866-452 5768.
