A pair of local youths was taken into custody over the weekend following a burglary at a residence in Saranac Lake.
Village police arrested an 18-year-old male from Vermontville at 9:54 p.m. Sunday and a 17-year-old male from Saranac Lake at 11:43 p.m. Sunday. Both names have been withheld due to potential youthful offender status.
According to reports, the two teens crafted a plan to break-in to a residence while the occupant was at work and steal several items. Police say the teens then followed through on the plan.
They were taken into custody following an investigation and both were charged with one count each of the following: third-degree burglary, a class-D felony; fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property; fifth-degree conspiracy; and petit larceny.
The subjects were processed at the police department and later arraigned in village court by Justice Ken McLaughlin. They were both remanded to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
They're scheduled to reappear at a later date.
