PORT HENRY - The "Cat's Meow" benefit for the North Country SPCA, held recently at Boni's Bistro in Port Henry, raised over $1,637 for the shelter in Westport.
A combination fashion show, presented by the First United Methodist Church Thrift Shop in Ticonderoga, and area entertainers highlighted the evening.
Lem Treadway was the announcer. Margie Reuther, NCSPCA president, and Deputy Bob Rice, animal control officer, spoke on the importance of the event.
The organizing committee included Carol Genier, Gayle Wells, Betty Rettig, Helen Sprague, Boni Edwards, Jennie Lou Gunning and Diane Melin.
"We came together as individuals who for the most part didn't know one another, but knew we cared about the animals. We willingly joined talents to produce the event and then exceeded our expectations. We truly appreciate the response from all who were involved and those who supported the event by coming," said Rettig.
The entertainers included the Disco Dance team of Ashley Andersen, Brittani Boyle and Jordon Popp directed by Laura Uhly; Jennifer Raymond of Crown Point; Blaise Bryant from Moriah; Juan Mosquera and Brenda Mesones of Crown Point, directed by Uhly; Thistle Carson of Moriah; and Jim Cawley as "Elvis." Spring fashions were modeled between acts.
"Sincere thanks are extended to our marvelous audience, Boni Edwards of Boni's Bistro for providing her function hall and refreshments for this event, the ladies at the Ticonderoga First United Methodist Church for providing the desserts and Bill and Ann Westervelt, the official photographers for the evening," Rettig said.
