POTTERSVILLE-A relatively new church with deep roots in the community will soon have new leadership.
The Rev. Benjamin G. Bahr is to be installed as pastor at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, located on the grounds of the former SonRise Lutheran Ministries, 8260 Route 9, Pottersville.
The church welcomed Bahr and his family to Pottersville during their recent Easter service.
The installation service will include a recognition of the camp, which existed on the property since 1963. In the beginning it was called Camp of the Pines and was a summer operation serving children campers and families. Later the name was changed to SonRise Lutheran Camp when it became a year-round retreat center and camp.
Pastor Bahr's last congregation was in Baton Rouge, La. He is a former staff member at Camp SonRise. He met his wife, Lacey, when the two worked at the camp in the late 1990s.
While the camp aspect of the ministry has ceased operations, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church continues to serve citizens of area communities. The church will continue to meet on the SonRise property until further notice, and does not intend to leave the vicinity of Pottersville, parishioner Betty Osolin said Tuesday.
"We would like to welcome you to join us as we serve the Lord and each other," she said.
