Celebrate the sugaring season by joining other folks from the community for a potluck supper with a maple theme. On Sunday, March 9 Shelburne Farms will host a Maple Community Potluck at 5 p.m. Its a chance to use one of the maple recipes from the Farms new cookbook Cooking with Shelburne Farms: Food and Stories from Vermont (there are two chapters devoted to maple, one sweet and one savory), or use the recipe from your own favorite collection. Cookbook co-authors Melissa Pasanen and Rick Gencarelli and the Farms sugarmaker Mark Klonicke will be on hand, and Shelburne Farms will provide a choice of entrees. And mark your calendar for the Maple Open House Weekend on March 29 and 30, a chance to visit the sugarbush at Shelburne Farms. On Saturday there will be hands-on maple activities with Shelburne Farms educators, from tapping a tree to sugar on snow. On Sunday take a self-guided tour and see the sugar making in process. During Maple Open House Weekend, the Shelburne Explorers 4-H serve a delicious pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon in the Farm Barn Education Center. No reservations needed. $7 for adults and $4 for a child. A benefit for the clubs dairy project.
