WESTPORT - The Essex County Soil and Water Conservation District has provided trees for county residents to purchase to protect local natural resources. Trees and shrubs have been purchased for wildlife habitat, windbreaks, living snow fence and to protect water quality by preventing erosion and filtering nutrients around Lake Champlain.
Local residents have placed orders for the trees through a program that started in January. On April 23 and 24 those residents will be picking trees up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Essex County Fairgrounds. There will be a variety of evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs available for purchase along with planting supplies and wild flower seeds.
There will be a limited supply of extra trees and shrubs for anyone that has not placed an order. Residents can call the office at 962-8225 for availability or stop by April 23 or 24 to see what is left.
