GLENS FALLS - A statewide panel discussion on the abuse of prescription pain relievers will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 20 at the Queensbury Hotel, 88 Ridge St. The discussion is intended to assist medical and dental professionals who prescribe pain medications.
According to data reported by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration there has been a 400 percent increase over the past 10 years in the number of Americans treated for prescription pain reliever abuse.
In Warren and Washington counties, an estimated one in five, or 20 percent of high school students have abused a prescription pain reliever. These medications are increasingly easy to obtain, more often than not from their own homes, or the homes of grandparents.
