In a rival match up between the Black River High School and Green Mountain Union High School boys' soccer teams, the host Black River Presidents notched a 4-0 win in front of the home crowd under the lights at Dorsey Park in Ludlow.
After getting off to a slow start, mostly due to some swarming Green Mountain defense, the Presidents finally got on the board halfway through the first half when after being awarded a direct kick, Black River senior Kippy Turco blasted a shot into the corner for a 1-0 lead.
It would turn out to be the only score in a first half mostly dictated by the defenses and goal keeping of Black River's Cris Kowalski and Green Mountain's Jacob Walker.
In the second half however, the Presidents would do a much better job of possession and keeping the ball on the ground, resulting in a Jake Covell goal on a nice assist from Tim Rumrill, before Tyler Schuab scored a third goal on another assist from Rumrill.
Josh Bickford would finish the scoring for Black River with an unassisted goal.
The win, at press time, put the Presidents at 9-2 on the season with big matches coming up against Leland & Gray and Bellows Falls.
