PLATTSBURGH - David Nappi is among a group of outstanding produce managers that will be honored at an awards program this May.
Nappi, who serves as produce manager for Price Chopper's Plattsburgh location, was recently named an honoree through the United Fresh Produce Association's Retail Produce Manager Awards Program. The program, sponsored by Ready Pac Foods, pays special recognition to those on the front-line in supermarkets working everyday to increase sales and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. The recognition goes to those representing 21 different supermarket chains, commissaries and independent retail stores in 17 states and Canada.
Nappi called the recognition a great honor.
"I've been in the business for about 40 years now and it's a huge honor to be recognized by my peers and companies involved with United Fresh," Nappi said. "I never expected this."
"These men and women have such an undeniable impact on our industry," United Fresh president and chief executive officer Tom Stenzel said in a prepared statement. "In so many cases, they are the face of the fresh fruit and vegetable industry for our consumers, and these produce managers represent the best of the best at their craft. Through their creative efforts and interaction with customers, they're making produce a centerpiece of the retail shopping experience and wowing consumers every day."
Nappi was the only produce manager in New York State announced to receive the recognition. He will join other award winners and their corporate produce directors for a banquet at the Hilton Riverside Hotel in New Orleans, La.
