Members of the Proctor Library Board of Trustees took aim at the local news media last week over alleged claims of "financial impropriety" that were leaked to the public last year. The board refused to answer questions about the allegations, as reported by several local news outlets. Some local residents have called for an independent audit, but so far the board of trustees has not officially announced the idea. Two local newspapers reported the story about the supposed firing of librarian James Knowlton over his urging of the trustees to conduct a financial audit. Knowlton claimed problems in the way library grant funds and similar expenses were being reported.
