Accident closes Route 17
Police responded to an accident March 9 in Addison at the intersection of Vermont Routes 22a and Route 1. A tractor trailer truck driven by Jonathan Pariseau, 50, of Brandon was traveling northbound on Route 22a in front of a rental truck driven by Michael Luciano, 34, of Schenectady, N.Y. Pariseau slowed and signaled to turn left on to Route 17 (westbound). Luciano did not see Pariseau slow and signal to turn and failed to slow sufficiently. Luciano then struck Pariseau while it was turning onto Vermont Route 17. The vehicles became stuck in the snow and could not move until a wrecker arrived on scene. Route 17 was closed down for approximately two hours until the vehicles were removed.
Driver strikes fence
On March 4, police responded to an accident on U.S. Route 7 at River Road New Haven. Driver Ansally Kuria, 23, of Middlebury lost control of the vehicle and left the traveled portion of the roadway. Kuria's vehicle then struck a fence and came to rest in a field.
Emergency vehicle in accident
On March 6, an accident occurred along Route 22A approximately .3 mile north of the Benson Line in Orwell. A vehicle operated by Wesley Orr, 20, of Orwell, struck a vehicle operated by Tasha Wright, 34, of Barre. Wright's vehicle also contained unidentified 13-year-old and 6-year-old passengers. The highway was snow-covered and slippery at the time. Orr, a volunteer emergency grew member, was traveling south with emergency red lights activated and was on his way to a crash in Benson on Route 22A. As he encountered the vehicle being operated by Wright, she slowed down and moved over to the right to allow Orr to pass. Orr lost control of his vehicle and was following too closely; he rear ended Wright's vehicle. One of Wright's children was transported to Porter Hospital for evaluation.
Auto downs utility pole
On March 6, along U.S. Route 7 in Leicester Paul Putman, 48, of Middlebury went off the east side of the highway and collided with a utility pole. The utility pole was broken. CVPS and Fairpoint Cable responded to replace the pole and restore power to the area.
Hancock man arrested
Police stopped driver Lawrence Jacques III of Hancock on March 7 as he was traveling on Route 100 in Waitsfield. A VSPtrooper said Jacques was driving under the influence, DLS, OOC, criminal refusal, with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. State Police in Middlesex had received a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle which was being operated erratically in Waitsfield. The vehicle was located in the Shaw's parking lot in Waitsfield and the operator was identified as Jacques. Following an investigation, Jacques was taken into custody for DUI. He was later found to be in possession of marijuana and operated the vehicle without the owner's consent. Jacques's license was found to be suspended due to prior DUI convictions and he refused to provide an evidentiary breath sample. Jacques was later released with a citation to appear in the Washington County District Court.
New Haven man cited for DUI
On March 3, a VSPtrooper stopped Michael Manley, 54, on River Road in New Haven. He was cited for DUI. The vehicle was being operated on the wrong side of River Road. During the stop it was found that Manley was under the influence of alcohol. He was transported to the New Haven State Police Barracks where he was processed for DUI. Following the processing, Manley was released on a citation to appear in Addison Court for DUI.
Accident onWest River Road
On Feb. 28, VSP responded to an accident on West River Road in Lincoln. Driver Shannon-Dee Anton, 47, of Lincoln was driving her 2004 Scion XB. Another driver, Noah P. Brautigam, 21, of Shelburne was driving a 2003 Ford Focus during freezing rain.
Prior to the collision, Anton was traveling east on West River Road at approximately 30 mph. Brautigam was traveling west at the same speed. While traveling east Anton lost control of the Scion and crossed the double yellow centerlines. The Scion came into direct contact with the Ford in the westbound lane of travel. Neither operator was injured. The Lincoln Fire Department assisted at the scene of the collision. Anton was issued a written warning pursuant to Title 23 VSA Section 1031 for driving to right.
