ROUSES POINT Rouses Point businessman Mark L Barie has published the life story of a retiring Catholic Priest, whose work with the dying and grief stricken has created thousands of followers from all over Vermont and upstate New York.
A Miracle Comes To Vermont, was released to the public this past Sunday at a large reception honoring Father Maurice Boucher. The 85-year-old pastor is retiring after 59 years in the priesthood. Several hundred people packed into the St. Amadeus church hall in Alburgh, Vermont to congratulate the priest, who also served as Director of St. Annes Shrine in Isle La Motte, Vermont, for more than thirty-five years.
Barie, a first-time author, was inspired to write Bouchers life story after hearing from a number of people that the extremely popular priest had a special ability with people who were terminally ill or were facing the loss of a loved one.
Father Boucher has devoted his entire life to healing people, but his healing powers have very little to do with physical ailments..Father Boucher mends broken hearts, said Barie.
The priests many followers, including a good number of non-Catholics, quickly scooped up Bouchers 135-page biography. More than 600 books have been sold, prompting concerns that the initial press run of one thousand books may soon run out. All profits from the sale of the book will be donated to Father Bouchers favorite charities The soft cover book includes a series of dramatic stories about Bouchers work with the dying and their families. There are numerous references to local families and more than two-dozen photos.
Father Bouchers admirers come from all walks of life and many of them are not regular church-goers, said Barie, adding, He has brought hope and healing to thousands of people and he is often referred to as a living saint.
