PLATTSBURGH A portion of Rugar Street in the city of Plattsburgh will temporarily become a one-way street this Saturday, Aug. 23, during the opening of the residence halls at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. In order to ease the congestion along the roadway where most of the dorms are located, motorists traveling along Rugar, between Memorial Hall and Sanborn Avenue Extension, will only be able to travel in a westerly direction toward Plattsburgh High School from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Those traveling on the Sanborn Avenue Extension, directly behind the college, will only be able to go one-way from Rugar Street to Park Street. The one-way traffic pattern alleviates some of the traffic along the roadway and protects students and their families as they move their belongings into residence hall rooms. Anyone traveling in an easterly direction along Rugar Street, toward Lake Champlain, will find the street closed at the intersection with Sanborn Avenue Extension. They will be diverted along Sanborn to Park Street, Draper Avenue and then onto Broad Street. Rugar Street may be congested at times on Saturday, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around SUNY Plattsburgh.
