The body of a Saranac Lake man was found floating in the water near Marcy Dam on Sept. 24.
At 1:39 p.m., a group of hikers called 911 and reported they found a man floating in the water near the Marcy Dam, unresponsive. The man has been identified as Kevin T. Benham, 36,.
New York State Police Aviation flew New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers and a Flight Nurse from Adirondack Medical Center to the scene approximately a quarter of a mile north of the Marcy Dam.
Resuscitation efforts were initiated and two additional Forest Rangers were flown in and assisted with CPR. Soon after, CPR was discontinued at the direction of AMC medical staff.
An autopsy performed on September 25 determined Benham’s death was accidental and the cause of death was fresh water drowning.
