TICONDEROGA - The "old men" have bragging rights for another year. The Senior team won the 10th annual Best Fourth in the North Alumni Basketball Tournament in Ticonderoga March 22. It marked the second straight year the Senior team was won the event. The senior roster, which featured players who graduated from Ti High between the years of 1983-91, consisted of Gary Manning, Bob Dedrick, Jamie Rockhill, Dan Dorsett, Fred Merrill, Steve Boyce and F.P. Tierney. The Seniors beat the Sophomores, 2000-03 graduates, in the championship game. The consolation game was won by the Freshmen, 2005-07 graduates, over the Juniors, 1993-1997. In the women's event, the 1999-2002 grads beat the 1983-91 grads. The tournament attracted 44 alumni players - 31 men and 13 women. Matt Cossey won the three point contest and donated the money back to the Fourth of July celebration. The tournament netted more than $800. "This was a momentous tournament as it was our 10th anniversary," said Bob Dedrick, who organized the event along with Dan Crossman. "T-shirts were given to all players. Special thanks to Mike Manning, Cy Labatore, Mike Sharkey, Dennis Trombley and Steve Defayette who officiated every game. "All games were very competitive and the crowd was the largest in 10 years," Dedrick said. "A special thanks also to the Ticonderoga school system." The annual event serves as an unofficial reunion and a fund-raiser for the community's annual Fourth of July celebration.
