Ticonderoga secured a berth in todays New York State Public High School Athletic Association boys cross country championship race by winning the Section VII Class D title Nov. 2. The Sentinels tallied 30 points to take the team crown. Lake Placid was second with 48. Lee Berube, the favorite to win todays individual State championship, led Ti in the section meet. He won the three-mile race in 14 minutes, 29 seconds to break the course record of 14:40 set by Perus Joe McCloud in 1997. Brendan Carberry was 10th for Ti, followed by Mike Lonergan 11th, Jared Best 18th, Jay Berube 25th, Josh Cook 31st and Eian Tierney 33rd. In the girls race, Ticonderoga finished second with 41 points. Seton catholic won with 23. The winning team in each class and the top five individuals not on the winning team qualified for todays state championship race in Norwood. Katie Karkoski, who was 18th at sectionals, and Amber Perkins, 33rd, will represent Ti at the state meet.
