If at first you don't succeed, try again with a lower price.
That's what the state Office of General Services aims to do this spring, as it sends Camp Gabriels back to the auction block.
According to the OGS, the now-shuttered minimum-security prison, located in the Franklin County town of Brighton, is now being auctioned off with a minimum bid of $750,000.
An auction last year did not net any bids. The minimum price then was $950,000.
Brighton town officials say the state has done little to maintain the property since it closed two years ago. Some speculate that the poor condition of the buildings turned away potential buyers.
The land surrounding the buildings will be classified as "moderate intensity" by the state Adirondack Park Agency if sold.
The state is currently accepting bids on Camp Gabriels - the auction ends April 26 and bids will be unsealed publicly on April 28 at the Harrietstown Town Hall.
