CROWN POINT - People have an opportunity to get a warm feeling while staying warm this winter.
Avery Energy of Crown Point is donating 1 cent for every gallon of heating fuel it sells to residential customers this season to the Ronald McDonald House in Burlington, Vt.
Owners Jackie and Will Deyo recently presented a $500 check to Pam Fenimore of the Ronald McDonald House after selling 50,000 gallons of fuel.
The promotion will continue indefinitely, Jackie Deyo explained.
"We noticed a lot of our community uses the Ronald McDonald House," she said. "We want to be a local business that helps the local community."
It also fits the company's motto. Named for the couple's 8-month-old daughter, Avery, the firm claims "Avery is on a mission to help local kids."
Avery Energy is the former Deyo's Heating Fuels of Crown Point. It serves the Crown Point-Ticonderoga-Moriah area.
"We're getting a really good response," Deyo said of the promotion. "On each ticket we note how much of that sale will be given to the Ronald McDonald House and we give out a brochure."
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Burlington is a "home away from home" for families with seriously-ill children who seek treatment at Vermont Children's Hospital at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility. It provides housing and support for families receiving treatment.
