Clinton County Health Department, through the support of Eastern Adirondack Healthcare Network’s Get moving for Healthy Aging Initiative, is pleased to be offering a new resource to residents looking to make healthier eating choices. Supermarket Smarts is a store based tour highlighting common nutrition recomendations people often hear from their healthcare providers. Tours explore topics such as identifying whole grains, heart healthy fats and lean and alternative proteins, increasing fruit and vegetable consumption and translating label lingo.
This service is facilitated by a Registered Dietitian and is being provided for free. The initiative is for adults 55 years and older. The first 100 participants earn a $10 gift card to practice their new skills and all participants will recieve a recipe book, reusable grocery tote, and other goodies to help them make sound choices at the grocery store.
Tours last about an hour and are being provided at several local grocery stores and on various dates and times. Adults interested in participating should call the Clinton County Health Department at 565-4993 so tour dates and times can be coordinated.
