The three seeded Lady Orange have stayed alive in Section VII Class D Sectional play. They downed Willsboro this week 9-0 to face two seeded, Lake Placid. Both Johnsburg teams as well as the Mountaineers lost in their quarterfinal matchups.
CHAZY - Michael Santor and Ricky Osier combined on a five-hitter and nine strikeouts as Chazy pulled away from the Jaguars and secured a win on May 27.
The Eagles advance to Friday's quarterfinals for Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference play.
Santor struck out five over the first four innings to get the win, and Osier fanned four over the final three for the save.
Michael Ryba and Marc Oshier led the Eagles with three hits each, with Ryba getting a triple. Kaleb Snide added two doubles, while Michael Santor and John Tregan had two hits apiece. Jacob Kennedy chipped in with a two-run homer and Osier had a triple.
Chazy, leading 5-0 after four, scored three in the fifth and four more in the sixth to break it open.
Chris Scott paced the Jaguars with a triple and double, while Sean O'Neil added a pair of hits. Ben Richards went the distance from the plate in the loss.
MINERVA - The sixth-seeded Vikings rallied their offense in the final three innings to put away the third-seeded Mountaineers on May 28.
Ryan Mascarenas earned the win with six strikeouts and four walks.
Ron Schofield and Tim Breeyear drove in a run in the fifth and sixth inning, respectively, and then Moriah scored two on an errant throw to second base in the seventh, pulling ahead 4-2. The Vikings added one more run on an error.
Tatsuki Miyazato struck out 12 for Minerva-Newcomb.
Mascarenas hit a double and a single for the Vikings, Jud Zelinski doubled and Schofield rapped two singles.
The Mountaineers' Brandon Poulton had a double and a single.
KEENE - Johnsburg let the game get away from it in the last three innings in a loss to Keene. The Beavers scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away in the preliminary matchup on May 28.
With the victory, the Beavers advance to a quarterfinal meeting with Lake Placid.
Michelle Sardella had three hits - a single, double and a triple - for Keene.
Louisa Sardella added two singles and a triple, and Anna Kowanko picked up three singes.
Emma Gothner connected on two hits, including a double, for the Beavers, and Rachael Dunkley hit a triple for Johnsburg.
Indian Lake-Long Lake 9
LONG LAKE - Kaylie Miller struck out five, didn't walk any and allowed just two hits as Indian Lake-Long Lake shut out Willsboro in the Section VII Class D softball playoffs on May 28.
The Orange took a 3-0 lead in the first and didn't score again until the sixth.
Murphy Farrell doubled and brought in two runs for Indian Lake-Long Lake, and Carli Reynolds had three RBIs. Emma Gray added two hits and two runs scored.
The Warriors threatened in the fourth, putting runners on second and third with no outs. But Miller fanned the next two batters, and the defense got the third out.
Willsboro had only one other base runner.
