CASTLETON The Castleton State College Theatre Arts Department presented the comedy You Cant Take It With You, by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart last week in the Casella Theater. I cant think of a better time I spent in a local theater in recent months. The play won the Pulitzer Prize in 1936, and two years later a film version, directed by Frank Capra, won the Academy Award for best picture. The Castleton production was directed by Susan Haefner, who performed on Broadway and is a member of the Weston Playhouse Theatre Company. She was the driving force behind this wonderful comedy. The Castleton play was also superbly staged and its set ting during the Depression, in the chaotic New York home of the Vanderhof/ Sycamore family, was perfectly crafted. This reviewer believes CSJs theater department is one of the best kept dramatic secrets in Rutland County. Were keeping an eye out for future productions here CSJ students consistently out-perform other Vermont college dramatic efforts. You Cant Take It With You was the latest evidence that this company is indeed ready for primetime and bigger, bolder undertakings.
