TICONDEROGA - Ghosts, goblins, monsters and other assorted creatures will roam downtown Ticonderoga as Halloween Fest comes to town.The annual "fright night" trick-or-treat event for children, sponsored by the Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership, will be held Friday, Oct. 29, 3:30-5 p.m. on Montcalm Street.Businesses and organizations displaying a pumpkin in their windows will be participating in the event by handing out treats to young people as they walk the sidewalks. Children and their families are invited to participate in this event, according to Matt Courtright, executive director of the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce.A Halloween costume parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. on the Community Building lawn. The parade will be led by local volunteers and community members. The community building steps will be decorated for the Halloween Fest with more than 300 pumpkins created by the students at Ticonderoga Elementary and St. Mary's schools. Following the parade the Ticonderoga American Legion will hold its annual Halloween party at 5 p.m. The party will include a costume contest with prizes, free hot dogs, juice and chips as well as Halloween-theme music. "This event is a perfect opportunity for families, businesses and community organizations to come together to enjoy the fall season. Thank you to TMSP as well as local businesses and organizations for their dedication to the community," Courtright said. Collaborating on the event are Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership members, local businesses and organizations, school administration, teachers, town officials and the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce. Montcalm Street will be closed to traffic from Sunshine Laundry to the 1888 building during the event to ensure the safety of all participants.The Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership seeks to promotes economic revitalization and historic preservation by employing precepts of the National Trust Main Street Center of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
