TICONDEROGA A Ticonderoga businessman charged with having sex with a 15-year-old girl at his home pleaded not guilty in Essex County Court in Elizabethtown Sept. 18.
James T. Gilbert, 33, of 84 Montcalm St., Ticonderoga, went before Judge Richard Meyer.
A county grand jury indicted Gilbert on charges of felony third-degree criminal sexual act, misdemeanor third-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
He was arrested by Ticonderoga police in April.
Gilbert was president of the Essex County Industrial Development Agency at the time of his arrest, but resigned soon after. Gilbert was also a member of several community boards and committees in Ticonderoga, but resigned those as well.
Gilbert owns the Evolve Business Center in Ticonderoga, a computer sales and installation company.
Gilbert was released without bail but must obey an order of protection for the alleged victim, who is now 16. He was also ordered to surrender his passport.
A pre-trial conference is set for Oct. 30 in County Court. A trial date after that.
