TICONDEROGA Ticonderoga Central School has a new athletic director. Bob Stuphen, Ti football coach, has been named to replaced long-time AD Jim Wells, who has retired. I have a lot to learn, Stuphen said. I hope I can do half as well as Jim Wells. Jims a big figure at Ti school and in the community; hell be impossible to replace. Luckily, hes offered to help me. Stuphen said hes inheriting a strong athletic program at Ti High. Just take a look at what weve accomplished, he said. Weve been very successful on the field and off. Ticonderoga has dominated Section VII Class competition in recent years. Football, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys indoor and outdoor track, baseball, softball have all won section titles the past few years and advanced to state competition. This past year the Ti football reached the state championship game under Stuphens direction while the school produced a state individual champion in boys cross country and track. Two years ago the Sentinel baseball and boys cross country teams each finished second in the state. Stuphen figures to be busy. Hes a social studies teacher at Ti High and will continue to coach the Sentinel football team. I have a full plate, I realize that, he said. My first priority is to learn the job. I dont expect there will any major changes. Stuphen said he feels privileged to live and work in Ticonderoga. This is a great place to live, said Stuphen, a Glens Falls native. I think Ti is a real jewel in New York State. Im pleased to call it home.
