Moriah reached the Section VII-X Class D football championship game with a 20-7 victory against Seton Catholic Oct. 26. The Vikings played Ticonderoga last night for the section title. After the Moriah defense denied Seton twice inside the Viking 10 yard line in the first quarter, Moriah took control of the contest. Jim Carlson broke free to scored on a 76-yard run to give Moriah a 7-0 lead in the second period. Steve Owens, who earlier intercepted a Seton pass in the end zone to deny the knights, scored for Moriah on a 2-yard run just before half for a 14-0 Viking advantage. Mike Brassard booted both extra points. Moriah iced the game in the third period as Keith Karkoski broke free for a 52-yard touchdown run and a 20-0 lead. The Vikings used a balanced ground game to advance. Carlson ran for 99 yards, karkoski 63 and Owens 41. Ticonderoga 40, Plattsburgh 22 Ticonderoga tuned up for the Section VII-X Class D championship game by beating Plattsburgh, 40-22, in a cross-over contest Oct. 26. Plattsburgh scored early to grab a 7-0 lead, but any hopes of an upset were quickly dashed. Krys Ross returned the kick off following the Hornet score 85 yards for a touchdown as Ti answered immediately and the rout was on. Ti scored 34 unanswered points. Evan Glading hauled in a 2-yard TD pass from Matt Streeter, capping a drive and putting the Sentinels on top, 14-7. Steve Lenhart scored on a 34-yard run, Streeter tallied on a quarterback sneak and Jake Taylor returned a punt 51 yards for a TD as the Sentinels streaked to a 34-7 lead at the intermission. Streeter capped the Ticonderoga scoring with a 10-yard TD run to open the third period.
