Ticonderoga will face off against Plattsburgh for the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys cross country championship today at Sentinel Field. The two squads finished the regular season with 17-1 records, forcing a run-off at todays CVAC Championship. The boys varsity meet will begin at 4:15 p.m. There will also be a modified girls race at 2:45 p.m, followed by the modified boys race at 3:10 and the varsity girls race at 3:35. Awards will be presented and the CVAC all-star team announced in a ceremony after the meet in the Ticonderoga Middle School cafeteria. In the event of bad weather, the races will be held in Ticonderogas Bicentennial Park. The Sentinels prepped for the showdown by beating Northeastern Clinton, 20-41, and Beekmantown, 25-32, in their regular-season finale Oct. 23. Lee Berube led Ti, winning the 3.1-mile race in 17 minutes, 5 seconds. Brendan Carberry was third for Ti, followed by Mike Lonergan fifth, Jared Best 10th, Kay Berube 11th, Eain Tierney 12th, Josh Cook 13th and Matt Nolan 15th. In the girls meet, Ticonderoga beat Chazy, 15-50, and lost to Beekmantown, 26-37, and to NCCS, 17-44. Katie Karkoski paced Ti, finishing fifth. Amber Perkins was 10th, and Miranda Ross 14th for the Sentinels. Sentinels at Brown The Ticonderoga boys cross country team had a chance to complete against some of the best runners in the Northeast Oct. 20 as it raced in the Brown Invitational in East Greenwick, R.I. Ranked second in the New York State in Class D, Ticonderoga was last in the race. Brookline, Mass., won with 46 points. Ti was 12th with 273. Although we finished last as a team the kids ran very well and didnt back off from some difficult competition, Ti Coach Brian Kiely said. Lee Berube, New Yorks top-ranked runner, fared well for Ti. He finished fourth overall, covering the 3.1-mile course in 15 minutes, 23 seconds. Robert Gibson of Brookline won in 15:14. Brendan Carberry was 65th in 17:54 for the Sentinels, followed by Mike Lonergan 71st, Jay Berube, 82nd, Jared Best 83rd, Eain Tierney 90th and Alex Walters 91st. Ticonderoga finished 22nd in the 25-team girls race with 549 points. Shoreham-Wading River, Mass., won with 59. Katie Karkoski topped Ti runners, finishing 82nd in 22:42. Miranda Ross was 113th, Amber Perkins 129th, Brittney LaVoie 140th, Brittany Holt 143rd, Colleen Walls 150th and Rachel Ward 158th for the Sentinels.
