TICONDEROGA - Holy Week, which starts April 5 at the First United Methodist Church, 1045 Wicker St., Ticonderoga, will be a culmination of the Lenten season as observed in Christian Churches throughout the world.
Starting with the Palm Sunday Service on April 5, Holy Week will trace the events leading up to Easter Sunday, April 12. All are welcome for the family friendly services.
The Palm Sunday services, April 5, at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. will feature the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem followed by reflections on the events of that first holy week through readings and message. The 10:30 service will also feature music and liturgical dance. Traditional palms will be handed out at both services.
The Maundy Thursday Service, April 9, will focus on the events leading up to Christ's trial and crucifixion including the Last Supper with His Disciples. The service will be at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Hall of the church. A light supper and a representative Seder meal will be offered followed by a hand washing ceremony and Communion service. All ages are invited and reservations are not necessary.
Good Friday, April 10, will be observed with a service at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. The youth and adults of the congregation will lead a service appropriate for all ages. The Stations of the Cross, featuring lighting, music and readings will be presented.
On Easter Sunday, April 12, the celebration of the Resurrection will be shared with an ecumenical sunrise service at Fort Ticonderoga at 6 a.m. All are invited to a buffet breakfast at the United Methodist Church following the service at the fort. A donation toward the breakfast will be appreciated.
Also on Easter Morning at 10:30 a.m. a traditional Easter Sunday service will be held for all worshippers. Pastor Scott Tyler will deliver the message and the Chancel Choir and guest musicians will present music.
