The fourth seeded Middlebury Tigers took an earlier than expected exit from the Division II state championship hockey tournament, when they were upset 3-2 in overtime by the thirteenth seeded Woodstock Wasps in the opening round on Feb. 18. Woodstock's Derek Osborne scored off an assist from Brian Martin at 4:19 of the first overtime to secure the upset for Woodstock and their advance to the quarterfinals. Troy Audette and Steel White scored Middlebury's goals, while Craig Camara stopped 14 shots for the Tigers in what proved to be Middlebury's final game. Middlebury played well enough to win this one, and probably would have had it not been for the efforts of Woodstock goalie Jared Walker. Walker made 34 saves, each and every one being critical to the Wasps upset.
