A pair of Tupper Lake organizations has announced a new community partnership with Sunmount DDSO.
According to officials involved with the initiative, the Tupper Lake-Sunmount Community Alliance aims to integrate the residents of Sunmount and the Tupper Lake community into a "working social and cultural relationship," with the goal of attaining an economic, social, and cultural return for the entire community.
This alliance is being organized by ARISE of Northern New York, Sunmount DDSO, the town and village of Tupper Lake, the Tupper Lake Central School District, and the Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Doug Wright is president of the Tupper Lake chamber. He says it's a "breath of fresh air" to see a state agency like Sunmount take an active interest in partnering with the community.
ARISE Chairman Jim LaValley says the new alliance will benefit everyone involved, especially as most of the community crosses its fingers in anticipation of the Adirondack Club & Resort.
"As Tupper Lake is on the edge of a new and exciting future, we look forward to building the opportunities between Sunmount and the community," LaValley said.
Cheryl Greiner is deputy director at Sunmount. She says the new alliance has already fostered an environment of mutual respect and support.
"Community group members frequently offer accolades to the individuals served by Sunmount for their community contributions, which have been passed on to the individuals," she said.
The chamber's Doug Wright says the alliance is already working on some community projects and more information will be available in the near future.
