TICONDEROGA - Softball fans will have a chance to help Ticonderoga's annual "Best Fourth in the North."
The community's July 4th planning committee has scheduled a pair of slow-pitch softball tournaments to raise money for the annual celebration.
A youth tournament for players ages 12-18 will be played May 29 and 30 at the Putnam ball field. Entry fee is $60 a team.
An adult tournament will be played June 5 and 6 at the Putnam ball field. Entry fee is $120 a team.
Teams in both co-ed tournaments must have 10 players, five women and five men.
Both tournaments are double elimination.
Team captains should call 321-4246 to register. Fees must be paid no later than the Thursday before event, May 26 for youth and June 3 for adult.
Teams will be drawn at random for playing times. The committee will notify the captain of each team of playing time. It is then the responsibility of the captain to notify his/her teammates. Players should be at the field at least 15 minutes prior to the start of a game.
Each game will have a time limit of 75 minutes to allow for all games to take place.
A 15-run rule will be in effect after the fifth inning.
Batting orders must be staggered by gender - woman, man, woman, man, etc.
Prizes for the youth tournament have yet to be determined.
Prizes for the adult tournament will be 50 percent of the adult registration fees.
A 50/50 raffle will be held. Winners will be drawn at the end of the championship game of each tournament.
A concession stand will be open. Committee members and volunteers will sell hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos and cheese, soda, sports drinks, water, and ice pops.
