MOOERS Have you been looking all over for a certain book, or maybe some old VHS tapes? Or, maybe, have you been meaning to have a yard sale, but just didnt know what day would be best? Well, the Mooers Townwide Garage Sale is meant to be the answer to your questions. On Saturday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., an estimated 6,000 to 10,000 people will be heading to the town of Mooers to see what residents have to offer, as has been the tradition for 20 years. Weve been told by some of the organizers that folks come from as far away as Albany, said the Rev. Al Johnson, pastor of Mooers United Methodist Church. Johnson is helping to organize this years townwide garage sale, although the Mooers Fire Department Auxiliary has normally been the group to sponsor it. The church is just filling in this year, he explained. We took it over to give continuity to the community. The fire department will take over duties again next year. Those interested in being a part of the townwide garage sale, may sign up in one of four ways by logging on to www.troyconference.org/mooers and following the links; sending an e-mail request to email@example.com; or by picking up a copy of the registration form at area merchants at Mooers United Methodist Church, 14 East St. Forms must be returned by Wednesday, June 11. The fee is $15. Those who register will have their names and addresses added to a map to be distributed to sale-goers, which will feature a brief description of what people will be selling. Sellers will also be given signs and balloons in order to mark the locations of their respective sales. There are typically 50-80 places on the map and other folks can of course put a sign out, said Johnson. So, if folks come to Mooers, theyll have many places to choose from. Some people also sell food added Johnson. If youre in the mood for a pie, or a North Country staple a michigan you can more than likely find them here. The morning of the garage sale, people can visit Mooers United Methodist Church and pick up the free map of garage sales. So if youre looking for a particular item, you know how to find them, explained Johnson. The proceeds from the registration fee will benefit local nonprofit organizations, including the fire department, the church and most likely the community food pantry, offered at the Mooers Wesleyan Church. Maps will be available for pickup at 7 a.m. at the Mooers United Methodist Church Saturday, June 14. [People] can come down, have a free cup of coffee and a donut, pick up a map, then happy huntings, said Johnson.
