THURMAN - Whether you crave a vintage Electrolux or new electronics, a Hoosier or healthy hostas, maple products or marinara sauce, you may just find it this weekend as 100 or more homeowners put out their wares for the annual Thurman Townwide Sale.
Thousands of shoppers from all over are expected to be driving the winding roads of mountainous Thurman to find the bargains offered after Thurman residents have cleaned out attics, basements and barns.
This year's Townwide Sale will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 15 through 17.
Those seeking a a sneak preview of some of the items to be offered can get an idea from a sellers' roster that has listed portraits and pocket knives, Adirondack chairs and antiques, jewelry and "junque" among the items. Also expect vehicles of all kinds, including trailers, trucks, boats, bikes and even a vintage Fiero compact sports car.
Townwide Sale signs will be posted to lead shoppers to sites, but maps giving directions will be handed out at entrances to town and are available at www.Thurman-NY.com.
Saturday, Thurman firefighters will hand out these maps while collection donations at a coin drop. Visitors are urged to be generous with these emergency responders, who will use the money for needed equipment and training.
Shoppers are urged to fill up their vehicles with gasoline, as none is sold in town. Thurman can be reached via state Rte. 418 out of Warrensburg, or from Johnsburg via South Johnsburg Road.
