A resolution was passed authorizing the town of Warrensburg to collaborate with Warren County and other local municipalities in soliciting bids trash disposal bids.
Supervisor Geraghty raised the proposal of having a contractor run the Town landfill operations.Several other municipalities have done so and saved money, he said, noting that the town loses between $25,000 and $40,000 annually on the operation. He pledged to look into the concept and report back to the board.
Geraghty noted that the lease agreement between the town of Warrensburg and Warrensburg Central School for the use of the town recreation fields will expire on Aug. 17. A joint Town Board-School Board meeting will be held to discuss the lease, he said.
Discussion was aired on a resolution urging the state to follow through with its delayed purchase of the Berry Pond Tract from the Lake George Land Conservancy. Most of the town board members indicated that in light of the financial condition of the state, the town should not support the purchase at this time, and the issue was tabled.
Geraghty announced a reminder to all local veterans to sign up for a discount identification card at the County Clerk's office for discount purchases at area businesses. This discount card is free of charge.
The board approved a request to fund Warren County Youth Court in the amount of $1,000 to help the program continue. Geraghty noted that Warrensburg uses the Youth Court participants for many community events and the program does hold court in town.
