The Saranac Lake Village Board of Trustees will take a tour of village sidewalks this evening.
At 5p.m. Monday, trustees will board a bus provided by the town of Harrietstown and go throughout Saranac Lake to personally inspect village sidewalks.
However, due to increased resident interest, the tour may take longer than expected, so the village will post its "real time" progress updates to the Community Development Department's Facebook page throughout the tour, so citizens will know more accurately when the board will be in their neighborhood.
Mayor Clyde Rabideau says he's heard from many residents that they are looking forward to seeking trustees hit the streets for the tour.
"So this tour may take a while," he said. "In fact, it may take quite a while."
The tour is part of the "Rebuild Saranac Lake" bond issue initiative, whereby the village board wishes to restore its long-neglected pedestrian walkways to a safe condition.
As part of the program, the village will "abandon" some sidewalks that lead to nowhere, Rabideau says. The village will also look to connect high traffic sidewalks.
The tour follows the village's street sweeping route, starting with Park Avenue and continuing to French Hill, Lake Street and Riverside Drive, College Hill, Helen Hill and downtown.
The tour was originally slated for 15 minute visits in each neighborhood, but will be adjusted accordingly.
Should another night of tours be required, the village board will post notices, including one on its Facebook page, which can be located by typing in "Saranac Lake Community Development."
