For the first time in three decades, the town of Tupper Lake is looking for a new secretary.
Town officials announced on Monday that Secretary Sandra Strader has retired. The board thanked Strader for her years of dedication.
Roger Amell is supervisor of the town of Tupper Lake.
"You put in a lot of years and a lot of time and we thank you for your services," he said at Monday night's meeting.
The board plans to publicly advertise for the position and begin accepting applications as soon as possible. The deadline for applying is April 1.
Specific qualifications for the position weren't discussed, but it was determined that hiring a certified public accountant would not be necessary.
Board members have been under some pressure to get a better handle on town finances since a state comptroller's audit earlier this year found that the municipality had several incomplete and inaccurate accounting records.
Town officials insisted that most of the problems have been addressed by new book keeping software - so hiring a CPA would not be a justifiable expense.
